Diploma of Nursing 


Course Duration: 18 months Common Course Requirements: 

  1. Must have graduated year 12 in home country
  2. Must have a minimum of IELTS 6 in all 4 components

Course Outcome: Diploma of Nursing graduates become Enrolled Nurse and can work in:

  • Hospitals
  • Residential care facilities
  • Mental health
  • Pathology services
  • Medical Centres
  • Community health centres
  • Immunisation and health care screening

Pathways: Most Diploma of Nursing course provide a pathway to Bachelor or Nursing Course. If you complete a Diploma of Nursing, you may be given Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) for your Bachelor or Nursing and reduce the time of the Bachelor of Nursing course significantly.

Course Duration: 3 years Common Course Requirements: 

  1. Must have graduated year 12 in home country
  2. Must have a minimum of IELTS 6.5 in all 4 components

Course Outcome: Diploma of Nursing graduates become Registered Nurses (education requirement for skilled migration purposes)

Possible Job Titles & Specialties

  • Enrolled Nurse (Enrolled nurses work under the supervision of a registered nurse to provide patients, from all backgrounds and ages, with basic nursing care)
  • Registered Nurse (The main responsibilities of an RN range from direct patient care to coordination of care delivery, health promotion, research and education)
  • Clinical Nurse (A nurse who has demonstrated proven knowledge in advanced care)
  • Community Health Nurse (A nurse who provides care and information to the wider community)
  • Mental Health Nurse (A nurse who works with the mentally disabled)
  • Practice Nurse (A nurse who works in a general practice performing basic nursing duties)

Education Pathways

Registered Nurse Medical (254418) – Is currently on the Skilled Occupations List.  To pass the skills assessment for general skilled migration you are required to prove that you have:

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  •  2 years on the job experience

If you complete a bachelor of Nursing in Australia you may qualify for the Temporary Graduate Visa. The benefit of this visa is, it gives you 18 months – 4 years of y unlimited work rights in Australia. Which can give you invaluable experience in the Nursing Industry. Plus graduates with a diploma of nursing may be able to work as an Enrolled Nurse during their Bachelor or Nursing studies. *Note* It is never recommended to undertake study for soul the purpose of trying to gain a visa to Australia
